Wiscasset Blend Earthworm Castings
Uses: Soil conditioning, top dress indoor container plants, compost tea – Great for vegetables!
Coast of Maine Organic Wiscasset Blend Earthworm Castings is a finely textured, supercharged vermicompost. It is a rich blend of the digested soil left behind by earthworms. This process makes the nutrients in the soil more available to plants, as well as adding improved water retention. The castings are odorless and finely textured, making it easy to top dress houseplants.
Available in 8 quart and 20quart bags.
Target pH 6.8
Here at Coast of Maine, we are proud of the quality and consistency of our compost-based soils. Compost, we believe (naturally decomposed organic matter) is the key ingredient.
Ours are made using carefully designed and tested recipes which include the very best ingredients (sustainably sourced from pristine ocean waters and local farms) combined with rigorous quality controls. We never use biosolids, municipal or household waste. Close attention to detail with frequent turning, sampling and testing plus a lengthy aging and curing process produces dark, rich compost.
Wiscasset Blend™ Organic & Natural Earthworm Castings are odor-free and can be used both indoor and out. Wiscasset Blend™ contains no chemical fertilizers or synthetic substances, and is safe to use anywhere.
Wiscasset Blend™ is named after the picturesque Mid-Coast village long known as the “prettiest” in Maine. Located on the Sheepscot River just up from Boothbay Harbor, Wiscasset was home to thriving shipping, shipbuilding, and lumber industries, and the busiest seaport north of Boston in the 1880s.
For use with flowers, vegetables, herbs and houseplants. Thoroughly mix Wiscasset Blend™ Earthworm Castings into the top of garden, potting or container soil, tamp down and water-in thoroughly.
Window boxes and hanging baskets
Apply liberally to cover the soil surface with a 1/4″ layer of earthworm castings. Scratch in and water.
Trees and shrubs
Top-dress a generous layer of earthworm castings around the drip line of the plant, (the lateral diameter of the shrub or tree).
Compost tea
Mix one cup of worm castings in a gallon of water, stirring vigorously to aerate. Let it sit for an hour and then stir again. Use the finished mixture to water-in the soil around vegetables, annuals, perennials, trees and shrubs. Or you can use as a foliar spray by applying the liquid directly to the leaves with a watering can or spray applicator.
